News from Castle Black

Minneapolis City SC has announced signings for its 2017 season. The signings include Martin Browne (brother of U.S. Open Cup hero Whitney), former Tampa Bay Rowdies (and Minnesota Thunder) midfielder Dan O’Brien, and last year’s captain Trey Benhart. They will be announcing signings for the 2017 season all week. To stay up to date, follow the team on Twitter.

MLS to join Liga MX on Facebook Live

MLS has announced a deal with Univision Deportes to stream 22 games in English during the 2017 season. The first MLS game to be shown on the Univision Deportes Facebook page will be Atlanta United vs. Chicago Fire on Saturday, March 18 at 3:00 p.m. CT.

Before the home opener

Christian Ramirez was interviewed on ExtraTime Radio with Andrew Wiebe and David Gass. The interview starts around the 18:15 mark and I encourage you to give it a listen.

Andrew Wiebe also wrote a piece for MLS about Minnesota soccer’s journey to the top division. Whether you are a new or long-time fan, it is a fantastic read.

Minnesota United FC announced a partnership with Allina Health.

Swiss right back Jérôme Thiesson arrived in Minnesota. He started against Atlanta and played a full 90 minutes.

Alvbåge injury update

Minnesota goalkeeper John Alvbåge took a cleat to his knee during a collision with Atlanta winger Héctor Villalba. Alvbåge was stretchered off the pitch and rushed to the hospital. It was initially feared that he had broken his leg. However, his MRI showed that no bones were broken. It is highly unlikely that Alvbåge will play against Colorado this weekend.
