Checking in from Ohio. Competent play will win the day.

  • Jeff Rueter

On the podcast, I predicted a close 2-1 Timbers victory. I think it’s a matchup that should be a lot of fun. Deep down, i just think the chemistry and attacking ability for Portland (plus the home field advantage) pushes them over the edge.

    • Bill Stenross

I’m just here to tell Jeff he’s wrong.

  • Alex Schieferdecker

    Head: 2-2 draw

    Heart: 3-0 Loons win!

    • Bill Stenross

      Here’s hoping!

  • Clint

Nagbe v Taylor is a bit nerve racking…

    • Alex Schieferdecker

It’s Vytas vs Taylor that scares me more.

      • Clint

        #PANIC

  • Chris RB

    head: 2-0 loss

    heart: reverse-twins. 19-0 win!

  • Nick Walby

Pretty nice hit from Molino there

  • rdp2011

    talent differential is pretty large

    • Nick Walby

I would completely agree. They were talking about this possibly being Portland’s best ever squad, meanwhile this is Minnesota’s first squad.

  • Ian Davy

Serious question, can someone tell me why Ibarra isn’t playing?

    • Alex Schieferdecker

Coaches decision clearly. Kadrii is good. But I’d like to see Ibarra next week.

  • Chris RB

ugh. nice goal, but that was a BS call against MN.

  • rdp2011

hard to beat portland at home for any team in league

  • rdp2011

the old kick them in the nuts strategy.

    • Nick Walby

That really transcends all levels of all sports.

  • rdp2011

    some nice passing and possession.

  • rdp2011

must be raining in PDX, sat signal keeps going out on FS1

  • Nick Walby

The commentators are on Nagbe’s jock so hard

  • rdp2011

are MN fans OK with the Target logo on the jerseys (I am a Sounders fan, but went to college in MN)? I would really prefer to just see “Target” like “Xbox”, maybe a shoulder Target logo, much smaller.

    • Katelion

Nah, from what I’ve seen, we all find it quite ugly. I agree words would have been better for this one rather than a large bullseye on the chest

    • Nick Walby

I think it’s actually one of the least intrusive logos i’ve seen on a jersey. I like it better than spelled out for sure. Ultimately, I really miss the last kits the Loon’s had. The grey on black was so badass.

      • rdp2011

I will have to take a closer look at them in person, maybe it is OK?

    • Alex Schieferdecker

I love it. It’s a great high profile sponsor for the club. And the target on the GK kit is amazing in so many ways.

  • rdp2011

they did pretty well, intense game. maybe not try weak crosses to the box, the counter from PDX is pretty fast

  • Nick Walby

Molino was the only bright spot offensively.

    • Chris RB

not sure you needed that last word there.

      (half kidding… Calvo/Demi were fine-ish)

      • Nick Walby

        Hahaha for sure.

  • Alex Schieferdecker

First half was poor, but we grew into the game. Only down one, so plenty of time left to get back in this.

We need to change formation though. The 4-3-3 is the same disaster we saw in preseason. We need to shift to the 4-2-2-2. Replace Saeid with Ramirez. Or, with Ibarra, and put Kadrii up top. Nothing against Saeid, but he’s surplus in this formation.

    • Chris RB

Seems like we’re panicky on the ball. Just hitting passes without trying to weight them- blast it towards the guy and hope they can catch it, so to speak.

  • Chris RB

    woof

    • Chris RB

      wind. out of. sails.

  • Nick Walby

    Awful marking on that cross

  • Nick Walby

Not to fond of this keeper so far to be honest.

    • Alex Schieferdecker

Me neither. Crosses are going to kill us, at least until we get a better RB.

      • Nick Walby

It takes time to build a rapport with the defensive line, but at the professional level it needs to be a more clean box.

  • Alex Schieferdecker

We will be a better team with a real formation and Jerome Theisson. I’m
not comfortable with Alvbåge either. Might need Shuttleworth or McLain.

    • Chris RB

      what a gross final goal.

  • Katelion

Uff da is about all I have to say at this point.

  • Chris RB

I spoke too soon, but my comment stands. gross final 5 minutes.

  • Nick Walby

It can only get better from there.

  • Alex Schieferdecker

    Really bad:
    Taylor, Alvbåge

Really bad but will fix their issues, I think:
    Demidov

    Not optimal:
    Davis, Saeid, Kadrii

    Need to see more from:
    Schüller, Molino, Venegas

    Actually good:
    Warner, Calvo, Ramirez

    Too little time:
    Ibarra
