Minnesota United announced today the signing of central midfielder/fullback Jeb Brovsky. Sources confirmed that it is a one year base with “multiple options” for the future. Brovsky trialed with the team during their trip to Mexico a couple weeks ago.
Brovsky, 27, spent all of last season with MLS expansion side New York City FC, making 12 starts among 15 overall appearances at defensive midfield and fullback. Brovsky spent three years with Montreal Impact before that, as well as a year with Vancouver Whitecaps. All three teams had him on their roster during their expansion seasons.
“As the (MLS) preseason goes on, rosters start to lock up and there just wasn’t a spot for me at outside back. Fortunately, I get to come in here to my natural position. I was drafted to Vancouver as a center mid… It’s a tough position to get into teams with, and we’ve got some fantastic guys at the position, so it’ll be good competition,” Brovsky said after Monday morning’s training.
“Hopefully, I can bring a winning attitude to the team… From the very beginning, (NYCFC) wanted to be a prestigious club. It’s tough to enter MLS as an expansion team because there’s so many growing pains. After a rough year, guys are gonna lose their jobs. Unfortunately, that was me. I’m hoping to be here for a long time. I want a place to raise my kids and to feel like home. I haven’t had that up until now; I really feel like I can keep the family here. This is a fantastic club to do that with.”
Brovsky will be wearing kit number 3 for the season. A defensive minded player with a strong right foot, Jeb[!] figures to fill one of the “double 6” slots in the United midfield for the season.
After the past few signings, here’s my best stab at a lineup for this week against Carolina RailHawks.
