Minnesota Migration: A weekly recap of Minnesotans in the pros.
Minnesota’s representatives in the northeast featured as Teal Bunbury returned from injury for the Revolution while Kassey Kallman and the Boston Breakers extended their losing streak to four.
The Boston Breakers are still looking for a way to get their offense going. Sunday’s 1-0 loss to the Chicago Red Stars marked the Breaker’s fourth straight game without a scoring a goal, but it’s not that they aren’t creating chances. In the 15th minute Boston saw a number of shots cleared away from goal during one corner kick and later on in the 40th minute Kristie Mewis hit the post from the penalty spot. Week after week the Breakers have created scoring chances for themselves, but are never able to convert. In hopes of remedying that, the Breakers recently signed Eunice Beckman who scored 10 goals in 28 games playing for Bayern Munich of the Frauen-Bundesliga.
Kassey Kallman went the distance for Boston, anchoring the center of the back four. The Breaker defense put in a solid performance that was broken by very impressive volley from Christen Press from the top of the box at the hour mark.
The Breakers travel to take on Sky Blue FC in the first of three games against opponents that are also in the bottom of the table. These games will be Boston’s best chance to finally get their first goal and win of the season.
Despite nursing a hamstring strain, Teal Bunbury was subbed on during half time of the New England Revolution’s 4-2 loss to the LA Galaxy. After LA went into the break with a 3-0 lead, right back London Woodbury made way for Bunbury in an effort to turn the game around. The Revolution did manage to pull within one goal, but some skilled play from Steven Gerrard reestablished the Galaxy’s 2-goal lead. While Bunbury was unable to directly influence the score line, he brought energy and pace while notching three shots and had some good possession passing.
Bunbury appears to be mostly on the mend so it is likely that he will feature in New England’s home game against the Chicago Fire this weekend.
It has now been five weeks since Calum Mallace has last played for the Montreal Impact. Mallace did not make the bench in Montreal’s 4-4 draw with Columbus Crew last weekend. It is worth noting that he is not getting time with the Impact’s USL team FC Montreal nor has he been listed as injured on any report. If Mallace is not part of the Impact’s plans they only have hours left before the trade deadline closes until this summer.
Montreal host the Philadelphia Union on Saturday.
Eric Miller was left off the game day roster as the Colorado Rapids hosted Real Salt Lake in the second game of the Rocky Mountain Cup. Despite Miller being listed on the bench last week, the groin injury he sustained against the Sounders two week ago kept him from participating in the Rapids 1-0 win that left them even with RSL in the Rocky Mountain Cup and put them at the top of the MLS standings.
Miller has two chances this week to make his return. First the Rapids host Sporting Kansas City Wednesday night and then they travel to take on Columbus Crew SC.
Tyler David was came in as a sub in the 82’ in St. Louis FC’s 3-0 win against Swope Park Rangers. The Rangers found themselves down two goals and down to 10 men for the second half when Oumar Ballo picked-up his second yellow of the game just before halftime. David was brought on shortly after St. Louis’s Chad Bond was ejected, after earning his second caution, to add some defensive presence while St. Louis saw the result through.
St. Louis travel to play the eastern conference leaders, Louisville City FC, on Saturday.
Still in the early stages of recovery from his recent shoulder surgery, Cody Cropper watched from the stands as MK Dons lost their last game of the season 2-1 to Nottingham Forest. The Dons have been relegated to League Two for next season and whether or not Cropper will join them remains to be seen.
