Judge Throws Out Mozzi Gyorio Lawsuit Against Minnesota United

A New York judge has dismissed a lawsuit that claimed former Minnesota United player Mozzi Gyorio did not have to play for the club’s reserve team. Gyorio and his lawyer claimed the team had breached his contract and the NASL had interfered with the situation.

Steven Sandor at The11.ca reported yesterday that New York Justice Ellen M. Coin had thrown the case out citing that NY courts did not have jurisdiction over Minnesota United. Coin added that even if it did have jurisdiction, the case would have failed.

“Gyorio has not submitted a scintilla of evidence to show that MU engaged in purposeful activity within the state and that the alleged activity in New York gave rise to, or had a substantial relationship with, the breach of contract claim,” Judge Coin remarked.

The Canadian Gyorio was signed in 2014 and saw very few minutes of action for the team. During the course of the season, Minnesota United moved the midfielder to the reserve team which would have opened up another roster spot for the first team. Gyorio refused the move and his lawyer claimed that he needn’t do so because it wasn’t included in his contract. Minnesota eventually terminated his contract for refusing the move.

Gyorio is currently playing with the Ottawa Fury in the NASL.
