MN Migration: Miller helps Colorado Earn 10th Shutout of the Season

In this week’s recap of Minnesotans playing professionally: Miller solidifies his starting role, two streaks come to an end, and David attempts late game heroics

Eric Miller was the only Minnesotan to play the full 90 this week. After spending the early part of the season shuffled around the back four, Miller made his third consecutive start at right back in the Colorado Rapids’ 0-0 draw with Orlando City SC. Miller finished the game with five recoveries, two interceptions and one clearance, helping the Rapids’ back line limit Orlando to just two shots on goal. On the offensive side Miller pushed forward and did well to keep possession of the ball, but continues to fall short on connecting with his crosses.

The Columbus Crew ended a 10 game winless streak with a 2-0 win at the expense of Teal Bunbury and the New England Revolution. Bunbury started the game on the right side of the midfield and provided an early spark to the Revolution offense by getting a shot on goal 52 seconds into the game. Unfortunately that would be Bunbury’s only scoring chance of the night, but he continued to play with passion as he pestered the Columbus Crew players. That passion earned him a yellow card in the 35th minute after he booted the ball in disgust after being called for a foul. Bunbury’s night ended in the 56th minute when he was subbed out for Diego Fagundez.

In another unfortunate showing of Minnesota Nice, Callum Mallace and the Montreal Impact provided a 3-0 result that gave the Chicago Fire their first away win in 35 games. Mallace started in the center of the midfield with two other defensive midfielders. With the Impact down one goal Mallace was sacrificed at halftime to provide more attacking options.

Tyler David saw his run of starts end in St. Louis FC’s 1-1 draw with Swope Park Rangers. David entered the game in the 86th minute to help St. Louis hold onto a 1-0 lead, but in the 89th minute Swope Park drove into the penalty area. St. Louis was unable to clear the danger and the ball eventually ended up at the feel of a Swope Park player who fired his shot past an attempted diving header goal line clearance by David.

… Kyle, you are regularly providing a depressing article.
But seriously, it goes to show you how much things need to improve if we want MN to start creating professional soccer players, let alone stand out players.
