Minnesota United FC unveiled their new ticket pricing scheme for their inaugural MLS season in 2017. The Loons will be moving from their home at National Sports Center in Blaine to the University of Minnesota’s TCF Bank Stadium.
The prices come with less than five months until first kick in MLS. Some of the best seats in the house will see pricing jump significantly (largely due to the quality gap between the venues and the jump up to a new league), but overall the ticket pricing remains comparably low. 37% of seats in the stadium will be available for under $20 a seat and 82% of the stadium for under $30. (Full price map can be found here.)
“One of the things we recognized is that we are on a campus and surrounded by another eight campuses and we wanted to make sure we gave a chance to those students to come and see a match and help grow our base for the future.” – Sean Sittnick
The team has also added a new student section to take advantage of the location. Pricing for this section has not been locked in yet as Sean Sittnick, the Loons’ Director of Sales, says the team is currently exploring a few different options, including non-conventional season tickets that wouldn’t include every match. Speaking to FiftyFive. One, he said, “One of the things we recognized is that we are on a campus and surrounded by another eight campuses and we wanted to make sure we gave a chance to those students to come and see a match and help grow our base for the future.”
Overall, Sittnick is particularly pleased that the team can offer a price structure that is affordable for all sorts of fans. “We hit that sweet spot of an affordable price for everyone in the community,” he said.
The average season ticket price will come in at less than $30 a match (though this is an estimation, assuming all season tickets are sold out). For comparison, the average season ticket for the Minnesota Vikings costs $84, the Wild is $67, Timberwolves is $37, and the Twins is $33.
Having taken more than 9000 deposits for the 2017 season so far, United will be hoping that showing the cost of the season ticket will help push them on before the 2017 season.
