For me MLS 1.0 is exactly how this first season is gonna feel/be like attendance, atmosphere, and buzz wise. Of course I joke with myself on that and say, well us long time fans want it that way. Why should NY, Chicago, LA, KC and others get to experience low attended matches in gigantic stadiums?
Joking aside I do think the Loons FO thought they were gonna get a bigger honeymoon going to MLS attendance/buzz boost this year with very little extra effort. Which is a bummer and reminds me of new teams that came and went in the lower leagues who just believed creating the team would be enough. Not that I believe the Loons will disappear of course. Just that they overestimated it.
to add to this, sorry if this goes against site rules.
To add to this MLS 1.0 vibe, I totally expect the media pundits who are fully against soccer will rally hard against the poor attendance numbers. The will find soccer fans unhappy with the atmosphere and those in the media who have been warm to soccer suddenly go cold and silent on the Loons. If this dark scenario comes to fruition I sure hope the tax breaks for the St. Paul stadium will have already been passed… Have they been passed already?
