In this week’s recap of Minnesotans playing professionally outside of the state: Mallace is a surprise addition, Cropper has to wait for his first shutout, and preseason begins for the NWSL.
A late scratch of Marco Donadel from the Montreal Impact’s starting lineup gave Calum Mallace his first appearance of the season. The midfielder put in 72 minutes in a 1-1 draw with NYCFC. It was an overall quiet night for Mallace, but depending on Donadel’s condition we could see him feature more.
The New England Revolution suffered its second loss of the season this weekend. The Revs took an early lead, but conceded a brace to Maximiliano Urruti in the second half. On the first goal Cody Cropper stopped an initial breakaway by Michael Barrios, but then lost sight of the ball. It ended up at the feet of Urruti who took advantage of the out-of-position keeper.

Just six minutes later the FC Dallas striker stripped the ball from a defender deep in New England’s defensive third. Urruti took a few touches towards the goal and unleashed a shot from a very tight angle over Cropper’s head.
In an attempt to grab a late equalizer Teal Bunbury came on for defender Chris Tierney in the 84th minute. In his brief appearance, the midfielder sent in a dangerous ball across the six-yard box, but no one from the Revs was there.
Tyler David made appearances this weekend for Saint Louis FC in a pair of preseason games. The midfielder played just over a half hour in a 3-0 loss to Roughnecks FC and started against Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in a 1-1 draw.
The NWSL is also in preseason and a number of Minnesotans are participating. Kassey Kallman started for the Washington Spirit in her first appearance with the club. The defender played two 30-minute periods and kept a clean sheet in a 3-0 result against Penn State University.
FC Kansas City defeated the University of Missouri 7-0 with the help of a pair of locals. Rashida Beal spent time at center back and right back while keeper Cat Parkhill started the second half.
Simone Kolander is on trial with the Chicago Red Stars.
An injury kept Eric Miller out for the Colorado Rapids in a 2-2 draw with Minnesota United FC.
Mukwelle Akale did not feature in Villarreal CF C’s 3-3 draw with Orihuela.
