In this week’s recap of Minnesotans playing professionally: Akale helps Villarreal C extend its unbeaten run while Miller commits a game-changing blunder.
During the last week Mukwelle Akale started in two victories for Villarreal CF C. The results extended the team’s winning streak to 11 games. On Wednesday, the lone Minnesotan playing abroad put in an active 82 minutes. Akale looked to have given his side the lead in the 17th minute after being played behind the defense with a through-ball, but he was flagged offside. In the second half, Akale tallied the second assist on the game-winning goal against CD Almoradí. The winger fed a teammate on the left side who then sent in a cross that was redirected between the keeper’s legs.
Sunday Villarreal CF C played last place CD Segorbe. Akale went the full 90 in another 1-0 win. The two results leave Villarreal CF C in third place and keep them in the playoff for promotion.
The weekend was not so kind to Colorado Rapids defender Eric Miller. In his second start of the season, Miller scored an own goal just before halftime when he deflected a driven cross into the Rapids’ net. The ball came to the top of the six-yard box where defender Jared Watts let the cross go just as Miller came into the area, sliding into the path of the ball. The Rapids’ offense struggled for most of the game and fell 1-0.
