Boxall and Nicholson are good additions. I thought Boxall looked pretty solid for stepping off a plane last night. He shut down things, played physical and controlled his space, and won most of the aerial battles that came his way. Sam looked good in spurts. He has speed and his foot skills are excellent. He managed double teams several times without giving the ball away and seemed good at picking out passes to his team mates at odd angles that trick the defense. He gassed pretty quickly, but he’s also fresh off a plane with a month of no training.
We held defensively fairly well while Kallman was still in, we broke bad when he went out. To be fair, the midfield is where we lost and Cronin’s absence was notable. I like what I saw out of Collin Martin and he dueled with Kljestan most of the match. He won several duels and harassed him frequently. However; Martin and Ibson did not seem to be on the same page and it was hard to tell if it was positioning or marking or what that Ibson kept yelling at him for. Eventually, Ibson just tried to do it all himself.
Ramirez just couldn’t find his touch today and didn’t have a lot of help once he settled the ball until Danladi came in. We need Danladi to stay healthy. He really changed the game and provided chances once he was in.
3 pts agains NYRB was unlikely from the start, but I fell like the team played much better overall today than on Wednesday. Hopefully we’ll stick it to DC next week.
