Gold Cup
The final matchup of the Gold Cup will take place July 26. Two teams have booked a place at Levi’s Stadium. The USMNT was the first to move on to the final behind goals from Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey. Dempsey scored his record-tying 57th goal for the Yanks, even with Landon Donovan. Jamaica pulled off an upset when Kemar Lawrence plunked an 86th-minute free kick into the back of Mexico’s net. In the 2015 Gold Cup, the Reggae Boyz defeated the Yanks 2-1 in the semi-final.
MLS rejects lucrative media deal
A 10-year deal — offered by MP & Silva and Miami FC owner Ricardo Silva worth $4 billion — would have required MLS to switch to a promotion and relegation system. The deal would have started in 2023 after the MLS’s current media deal with Fox, ESPN, and Univision. MLS spokesperson Dan Courtemanche said that MLS is not contractually allowed to negotiate with MP and Silva, in a statement to ESPN.
