MN Migration: Bunbury Makes It Four Goals in Five Games

In this week’s recap of Minnesotans playing professionally outside of the state: Miller helps keep a shutout, two former Gophers make their debuts, and Akale scores in a preseason friendly,

Teal Bunbury scored his fourth goal of the season for the New England Revolution. The goal gave the Revs a 1-0 win against the Vancouver Whitecaps. Bunbury had a few chances early in the game, but in the 65th minute the forward finished a cross from Keyln Rowe:

In goal, Cody Cropper made two saves to secure New England’s sixth shutout of the season. The crossbar also helped by keeping out a free kick from Cristian Techera. Cropper hit his head on the post during the same play, but saw out the rest of the game.

Eric Miller went the distance in the Colorado Rapids’ 0-0 draw with FC Dallas. Miller was more involved defensively and finished with six clearances, two interceptions, and a blocked shot. The right back only attempted 11 passes, completing eight of them. This was the Rapids’ fourth shutout of the season.

Saint Louis FC played two games in four days in the USL. Tyler David came on in the second half when STLFC trailed the Tulsa Roughnecks 1-0. Tulsa would score one more, but in the 86th minute a cross meant for David was put into the net by a Roughneck defender. Unfortunately STLFC couldn’t get another and the game ended 2-1.

In the second game, David started as a forward against the Tampa Bay Rowdies. The scoreline was 2-2 after the first 16 minutes. David was not involved in Saint Louis’s goals, but it was his mark that scored on Tampa’s second goal. David left the game in the 63rd minute without taking a single shot. STLFC went on to win 4-3.

Making her professional debut Tarah Hobbs started in goal for Östersunds DFF in a 1-1 draw with Hovås/Billdal IF. Hobbs faced two penalties during the game. The first beat the former Gopher and the second hit the post.

Simone Kolander also made her first appearance for AC Sparta Praha in a 6-0 win over FC Slovan Liberec. Kolander came on in the 64th minute when her side was already up 5-0.

Preseason is coming to a close for Mukwelle Akale and Villarreal CF. Akale has been playing with Villarreal B so far and scored the lone goal in a win over CF La Nucía.

It’s great that our number of players to track suddenly got so big. (Nice job, Gophers).
