News In Brief: NASL’s Fate, Calvo on FIFA 18 Cover, Weekend Roundup, and More

    Around the world

According to Brian Straus at Sports Illustrated, the NASL’s fate as a second division was to be decided on a meeting on Friday. This is a huge deal for the league and its clubs; failure to attain second-division sanctioning could cause numerous teams to leave the league for the USL, or could cause the league to collapse altogether.

Jeff Carlisle reports that MLS stopped paying Marvell Wynne shortly after his heart surgery that could possibly end his career.

Some insight on where D1 schools are recruiting their players from. There are questions, however; the size of the pool of HS players, for instance, can affect these numbers greatly.

States w/ highest % of HS boys soccer players recruited by a DI school:
    1. Maryland
    2. Florida
    3. Virginia
    4. Connecticut

Though he’s unlikely to win, Francisco Calvo could be voted to the FIFA 18 custom cover.

In case you missed it, you’ll want to watch Abu Danladi’s winner from Saturday. The young forward scored on a tremendous strike.
