Lots of ups and downs in this one. All in all, it was a good match and definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. Outside of the one gaffe on the Gressel goal, I thought Taylor had a good game in a position he’s really not suited to play against some very good attackers. Hat’s off to Theisson, we rarely heard Asad’s name all night. Kallman had a bad game and after a decent first half, Martin started to really struggle. Warner and Ibson both had good games. I thought Finlay struggled to make a mark in the attack, but our final passes were wanting for much of the night and he had some dangerous runs that were not helped by his team mates touches. Nicholson was dangerous again as a sub. I think he needs to look to the pass on occassion when his lane is blocked, but he’s been game changing with his aggressive play in the box. Molino had an excellent game. He asserted himself when he needed to and that is the play we need week in and out from him.

Sucks to give up 2 goals and the lead when you’re a man up, but it evens out when you punch a dagger into the heart of the other team to win it at the end of the game. We may not have much of a shot at the playoffs, but it will be fun to play spoiler the rest of the way.

I see a salty Atlanta fan found the site and marked a 1 for every player…

Right? How can every player be a 1 if they ended up winning the game? Get real ATL.

Martin definitely took a step back after two good games. Molino silenced me for the time being. It was kind of a weird game for many reasons, not a lot of flow. Abu looks like he was a great pick. Not just this latest amazing goal, but he did some good work dribbling out of pressure a few times. Kuhlman had a rough night.

MLS claims they ran a 4-3-3, but it really was a 4-1-2-3 with Martin as the CDM and almost acting as a sweeper in front of the defensive line. I’ve noticed that Martin played the deeper role in the Dallas game as well. That’s a tough role to play against a team like Dallas who he did pretty well against, but it’s a nightmare spot with a team like Atlanta who shifts attackers and swarms en masse.

Martin didn’t see nearly as much of the ball in that role – he had maybe 25-30 touches total compared to 50-70 in the Dallas and Houston games where he partnered more with Ibson. His positioning is good and his awareness seems to be there. But, he plays a little passive at times and seems to struggle to find the rhythm of the game at times. All in all, he’s had some good moments for us and I think he gets another shot as a starter against SKC as he seems to be improving.
