Minnesota United FC win, struggle, and are set for reinforcements
Minnesota United FC began its homestead with a win over Real Salt Lake, despite a brace from Joao Plata in the dying moments of the match. Despite the points, Adrian Heath expressed frustration at the lack of defensive stability in the team. Specifically, set pieces are presenting a problem for the Loons.
While the team continues to have difficulties with defending, another attacking reinforcement appears on the horizon. Preseason target Nicolás Benedetti seems to be on his way out, with MNUFC possibly still interested.
Club fees prevent immigrants from their dreams
Immigrants and children of immigrants face many challenges. For those who dream of one day playing professional soccer, there are even more. The obvious, fees for playing for a club, are hard to meet. Still others exist; transportation to and from games, practices, and other events is difficult for many immigrants.
In response, Minnesotans and Hope Solo are working to help everyone be able to follow their dreams. “Alternative Clubs” are being created giving players low-cost options to play and grow their skill. I Am Like a Girl is a similar program, aimed at helping female soccer players earn their way into college.
