Atlanta United wins MLS Cup
You may not have heard, but the MLS season is over and Atlanta United have won the cup. After just two years, Atlanta has, according to Sam Stejskal, raised the bar. This was Atlanta’s first title victory since 1995. The champions will be bolstered by a new signing from Argentina in $15 million dollar Gonzalo Martinez.
The championship match reached the highest levels for MLS since 1998.
Growth in the African Game
South Africa qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time in 24 years. The question to face now is why African nations don’t do well at the World Cup. The answer according to Fran Hilton-Smith, is to get African teams playing more often and against better opponents.
