NPSL North: Week 2 Recap

by on 18 May 2019

The NPSL North Conference season began in earnest over the weekend, with six of the seven clubs in action on Saturday and only Med City FC left to get off the mark.

• At Minneapolis City SC 2, Dakota Fusion FC 1 — The Crows worked past the Fusion in a hard-fought home opener at Edor Nelson Stadium.
City goalkeeper Matt Elder made a key save on an early penalty for the Fusion to keep scores level, and the Crows picked up steam over the course of the first half, with goals from Max Kent and Jonah Garcia.
Archie Suah pulled one back for the visitors with five minutes remaining in regulation, but the home defense held firm and the Crows came away with three points to go top of the conference table.
City (1-0-0) welcomes La Crosse Aris to town on Friday.
Dakota (0-1-0) hosts Duluth FC on Saturday.

• At Duluth FC 2, Minnesota TwinStars FC 2 — A midweek trip to Des Moines, Iowa, for the U.S. Open Cup seemed to catch up with the BlueGreens, who settled for a draw with the TwinStars in their return to NPSL play.
Sikiru Kareem gave the TwinStars a 1-0 lead at the tail end of the first half, and the visitors doubled their lead 10 minutes after the restart when a set piece resulted in a Duluth own goal.
The BlueGreens clawed their way back into the match in the final stages, however, with Damia Viader trimming the deficit to 2-1 with 10 minutes to play.
The hosts then drew level just before the final whistle thanks to a TwinStars own goal late in stoppage time, and both sides walked away with a share of the points.
Duluth FC (1-0-1) visits Dakota Fusion FC on Saturday.
The TwinStars (0-0-1) make the same trip to play the Fusion on Wednesday.

• At Sioux Falls Thunder FC 4, La Crosse Aris FC 0 — The Thunder bounced back from an opening-weekend loss at Duluth and picked up three points with a four-goal output at home against Aris.
Jean Marc Mpemba led the way for Sioux Falls with a brace in the first half.
Aris (0-1-0) visits Minneapolis City on Friday.
Sioux Falls (1-1-0) hosts Med City on Saturday.
