Soccer fans Surly about pregame
One of the biggest disappointments in the offseason for many was learning that tailgating would not be allowed on the U of M campus before Minnesota United games. Surly has come up with a plan to fill that void. While you’ll need to leave your mini grills at home, the local brewery has come up with several reasons to swing by. Those attending the pre-party prior to the home opener on March 12 will get free parking, live music, and free beer. You heard me right — wear any soccer jersey and the first beer is on the house. The event is all ages and will culminate in a march to the stadium, less than a mile away. Pre-parties are planned for all United home games.
In addition, Surly is launching a special “United Crushers” beer that brings together soccer, beer, and the iconic graffiti on the nearby grain elevator.
Getting to know players
So many new faces on the Minnesota United roster, so many stories to hear. The Pioneer Press’s Andy Greder profiled both Josh Gatt and Rasmus Schüller. Gatt, a former USMNT player, says he hasn’t lost any steps after three ACL surgeries in three years. The speedy winger says he’s feeling great and ready to play in MLS.
Rasmus Schüller might be a rare Finn in MLS, but the three Finnish Minnesota Wild players are ready to make him feel right at home.
Meanwhile, Jérôme Thiesson is still waiting to join the team. While he’s in waiting for paperwork to come through, he’s scoping out his new team like the rest of us.
