Exactly one year ago, a group of writers from Minnesota decided to go rogue and do something really unique: provide independent, professional coverage of soccer throughout our region.

In one year, we posted over 1,000 articles (most of which were more than one word).

Last year, our writers and editors (over 20 of us) decided to move on from Northern Pitch, to start our own venture, FiftyFive. One (most of you have stopped bugging us about the name change). Since then, we’ve covered a lot of ground. We were one of the only outlets who dug into the NASL off-season near-apocalypse. We broke the stories of Target sponsoring Minnesota United’s kit and Miguel Ibarra’s return to Minnesota.

But beyond these big ticket news items is the daily regular coverage of the small things. FiftyFive. One has begun giving in-depth coverage of our state’s NPSL league, something you cannot find anywhere else. You get weekly recaps of Minnesotans like Kassey Kallman, Cody Cropper, and Mukwelle Akale. You get almost daily news links in the mornings. You also get two weekly podcasts covering the world of soccer from a Minnesotan perspective.

Excuse the bragging, but we feel really proud of what we’ve accomplished in one year. 175,000 people have come to us in this past year looking for news. We couldn’t have done it without those readers and launching our Patreon campaign has allowed some of those readers to take a more active role in helping us keep going. Thank you to those supporters.

In the last year, Minnesotan soccer took a step up to the big stage and we’ve tried to make that step up too. We’ve got big plans and we hope that our readers will continue to play a big part of that. Thanks. Here’s to another year and many years beyond that.

FiftyFive. One is now on Patreon. Do you like the independent coverage of soccer news from Minnesota and beyond that FiftyFive. One offers? Please consider becoming a patron.

You probably hear it a ton but thank you, thank you, thank you for all the work everyone at 55.1 does on a daily bases. Including those who work silently in the back ground. Yes I’m talking about all you editors. The fact that you all put so much effort and professionalism into something that isn’t your first, second, or even third job is a testament to your awesomeness. Like if your awesomeness was graded on the Scoville Scale you would give Dragons Breath a run for it’s money.

So please if you’re having a down day not feeling up to working on this website, or yr getting crap from some internet trolls about piddly little thing you said or wrote, you have a huge fan out here on the internet who loves this site and wouldn’t want to follow the sport in MN without ya.

I do it all for this level of nerddom: “Like if your awesomeness was graded on the Scoville Scale you would give Dragons Breath a run for it’s money.”

Couldn’t agree more wtih MmattN! Your site provides analysis that is actually useful and not skewed like the talking heads at ESPN and the other so-called “experts”. Even the one-word articles are worth a read! Keep up the good work and, I think I can speak for most (if not all) of the other readers in saying that I’m looking forward to what the future holds for this great site. Cheers!

“not skewed”? I can agree with that… outside of Jeff Rueter’s consistent hate speech towards Ibson. ?

For someone two states over who has yet to find anyone else (locally) with my interest in United, FiftyFive. One provides a big connection to the club and fandom. Love the analysis, the variety of voices, and the humor. Thank you.

Well my Feedly feed still says Northern Pitch. As long as clicking on that link takes me to some page that has good writing that’s enough for me. Call yourselves whatever you wish. May I suggest Southwestern Ontario Nation Soccer? In keeping with soccer tradition in this state, it’s almost time for another name change.

Just keep writing (and editing, and recording audio, and and and…) folks. Thank you for all the news and insight every day.

I do not exaggerate when I share that this is the FIRST website I open up when I come into the kitchen to eat breakfast every morning. I’m always eager for the next nugget of news, insider information and even articles on tactics. Thank you for everything you do.
