News in Brief: Minnesota Hall of Fame Connections, Merch to Be Proud of, and More

Soccer Hall of Fame Minnesota connections

Ballots for the National Soccer Hall of Fame Class of 2017 are finalized and voting is underway. Notably, Tony Sanneh is on the list, who is eligible based on his 43 USMNT caps. Sanneh’s eligibility expires in 2019, ten years after his last MLS appearance.

Meanwhile, another Minnesota connection found different way in. Djorn Buchholz, former CEO and vice president of sporting operations for Minnesota, was named the executive director for the Hall of Fame. He’ll start in his new role on June 5.

Merch you can be proud of

If you’re on the market for a t-shirt or scarf to commemorate Minnesota United’s Pride Night on May 27, there are a few offerings that might catch your eye. The Dark Clouds have a scarf and t-shirt full of rainbow goodness. You can pick up the “Proud Clouds” offerings before the match on Saturday at either the Surly Brewery or the Nomad World Pub. What’s left will be sold online, but I wouldn’t count on that availability if I were you.

Next up is a t-shirt inspired by the East Coast Dark Clouds. If you just want the world to know “We’re Just Happy to Be Here,” then Talisman can hook you up.

The best part might be that all options benefit worthy causes. A portion of the proceeds from Proud Clouds sales will go to the Avenues For Homeless Youth GLBT Host Program. Talisman is sending proceeds to Immigration Equality, an organization providing legal assistance to LGBTQ and HIV-positive immigrants.

    Gophers announce 2017 schedule

Mark your calendars for the Minnesota Gophers’ 2017 season. The defending double Big Ten champions will play two exhibition games and seven non-conference matches before Big Ten play starts.
