In this week’s recap of Minnesotans playing professionally outside of the state: Cropper keeps Toronto out, Miller puts in a full shift, and St. Louis advances in the Open Cup.
To start the week Cody Cropper watched the New England Revolution draw with NYCFC 2-2 from the bench. However, when the Revs faced Toronto FC on Saturday the keeper returned to his starting role. Cropper made three saves and recovered 10 loose balls on his way to his fourth shutout of the season. The frame of the goal played a big role a couple of time, but the Maple Grove native did his part to keep Toronto on the wrong side of a 3-0 scoreline.
Eric Miller went the full 90 for the Colorado Rapids in a 2-1 win over Columbus Crew SC. After being subbed out at the half last week, Miller put in a solid performance at left back. With the Rapids still dealing with an incomplete back line it is good to see that he has not lost favor. The defender finished the game with three clearances, two interceptions, and a blocked shot.
In a two-game week, Tyler David and Saint Louis FC came away with two wins. On Tuesday STLFC traveled to play the Michigan Bucks in the 3rd round of the U.S. Open Cup. David went the distance and and almost scored as his side advanced to the next round with a 2-1 win. They will now host Chicago Fire on June 14th, giving them a chance to slay their region’s giant.
In regular season play St. Louis hosted Toronto FC II in the first home game since the team’s stadium flooded. David entered the game in the 64th minute to help see a 2-0 lead out to the end.
Teal Bunbury used this week to complete his two-game suspension.
Jackson Yueill was once again left on the bench for a depleted San Jose side in a 2-0 loss to the Portland Timbers.
Calum Mallace did not make the bench for the Montreal Impact’s 4-2 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps in the Canadian Championship. He also did not dress in the 1-0 win against the New York Red Bulls.
Kassey Kallman has now gone three games without seeing the field, but the Washington Spirit came away with a 2-0 win over the Houston Dash.
Cat Parkhill was an unused substitute for FC Kansas City in a 2-0 loss to the North Carolina Courage.
