In this week’s recap of Minnesotans playing professionally outside of the state: After a light weekend, Eric Miller, Teal Bunbury, and Jackson Yueill score in U.S. Open Cup play.
The international window cut down the number of games during the weekend. However, the Montreal Impact played to a 1-1 draw with Sporting Kansas City. With a number of international absences for Montreal, Calum Mallace got the start and went the distance. The midfielder played his usual role as a midfield pivot, but didn’t do much to warrant more playing time.
Saint Louis FC also played during the weekend in a 2-1 loss to Bethlehem Steel FC. Some creative lineup decisions led to Tyler David starting up top for STLFC. Three minutes into the game, it nearly paid off after he deflected a shot towards goal. Unfortunately a defender prevented his touch from earning the goal by clearing it into his own net. The midfielder-turned-target forward had another chance later in the game, but skied his shot from 12 yards out.
David also put in 12 minutes in a 1-0 loss to the Chicago Fire in the U.S. Open Cup.
Eric Miller scored his first goal for the Colorado Rapids in a 3-2 win over OKC Energy FC. Miller put in a solid 90 minutes at center back for Colorado. The Rapids went into half time down 2-0 to the USL side, but quickly pulled one back in the second half. In the 66th minute, Alan Gordon sent a header towards the back post where Miller knocked the ball into the net to pull Colorado level.

Also opening his account for the year was Teal Bunbury. The winger has not had a successful season thus far, but earned the start against the Rochester Rhinos. The New England Revolution earned a penalty in the 44th minute. Bunbury converted it for the first goal of the 3-0 result. So far this season Bunbury has not played more than 24 minutes in a game, but he went the distance and hopefully did enough to warrant a return to the field.
Jackson Yueill rounded out the scoring with his first goal in a San Jose Earthquakes uniform. The Earthquakes have been playing with a depleted bench recently, but the midfielder was never called upon. However, in the U.S. Open Cup tie, Yueill started and impressed for 90 minutes. Four minutes into the game, the rookie volleyed home a deflected free kick to give his side the lead. San Jose added another two minutes later, and held on for a 2-0 win over the San Francisco Deltas.

Cody Cropper got the week off for New England and was not included in the game day roster against Rochester.
Kassey Kallman and Cat Parkhill did not feature this week because the NWSL did not have games during the international break.
