In this week’s recap of Minnesotans playing professionally outside of the state: Kolander, Yueill, and Stiever notch assists while Miller and David pulled double duty.
The week did not get off to a good start for Jackson Yueill and the San Jose Earthquakes. Yueill came on in the 65th minute when the Quakes were a man down and a goal down to Real Salt Lake. RSL dominated play and eventually came away with a 4-0 win.
San Jose made a quick recovery and defeated the LA Galaxy 3-0 during the weekend. Yueill went the full 90 in the final game of the California Clásico. The midfielder sent in a few dangerous balls with one leading to his first assist of the regular season.

Also featuring twice this weekend was Eric Miller. Miller went the distance at center back in a 2-1 loss to the Portland Timbers where he lead both teams with 13 clearances. The Colorado Rapids followed that up with a 4-1 loss to RSL, losing the Rocky Mountain Cup. Again, Miller put in a full shift in the center of the defense. So far this season he is the most consistent defender for the Rapids. He has made 22 appearances with Jared Watts coming up next with 16.
Cody Cropper put in a man-of-the-match performance for the New England Revolution. Cropper made five saves against D.C. United to keep his team in the game, but was ultimately beaten when his defense left two different United players unmarked.

For the third time in the past seven games Teal Bunbury couldn’t find the back of the net. The forward outscored his last four seasons during that same stretch, but the addition of Krisztián Németh will put more pressure on Bunbury to add to his tally.
Simone Kolander made her second start for Sparta Praha FC, but came off at the half. The forward set up her side’s first goal in a 4-0 win over FC Viktoria Plzeň. After running onto a through-ball Kolander beat two defenders before cutting the ball back to an open teammate.
Finally making her debut for Östersund DFF, Josee Stiever earned the start against Västerås BK and immediately proved to be worth the wait. In the 13th minute she set up fellow Big 10 alumni Addie Steiner for the games first goal. Stiever had a chance to score just before halftime, but was denied by the keeper.
Tarah Hobbs started in goal for ÖDFF. She was tested a few times from distance in the first half and did well to control her box. However, for the fourth time in three games, she faced a PK. Hobbs guessed the correct side, but the shot was just beyond her reach. Despite numerous chances for ÖDFF during the remainder of the game, the final score was 1-1.
After failing the see the field for Villarreal B, Muwkelle Akale played in the season opener for Villareal C. Akale came on in the 65th minute of a 0-0 draw with Crevillente. Akale is on the roster for C, but hopefully this season he will get to see more time with B.
Tyler David made two appearances for Saint Louis FC this week. David came on in the 75th minute in a 2-1 win over Tulsa Roughnecks FC. It seems his days as a midfielder are gone for STLFC as David took his new place up top.
In the second game of the week, David started at forward, but a sixth minute ejection shifted him back into the midfield. The St. Louis University product came away with three clearances and five recoveries before coming off in the 67th minute. Despite playing most of the game a player down, STLFC kept it close, but ended up losing 2-1 to the Rochester Rhinos.
Calum Mallace remained on the bench in Seattle Sounders FC’s 1-1 draw with Vancouver Whitecaps FC. He was left off the game day roster for the side’s 1-1 draw with the Portland Timbers.
Kassey Kallman is out with a concussion and missed the Washington Spirit’s 2-1 loss to the Chicago Red Stars.
Cat Parkhill watched from the bench as FC Kansas City lost to the Orlando Pride.
