Did anyone else think Collin Martin had a bit of a breakout game? He was calm on the ball. Made generally good decision (I can only remember one stray pass). This would be a very nice development if he can play like that every game.

Colin definitely had a better game. I thought he looked good when he wasn’t under a ton of pressure. When he had more than one opponent on him or they closed space on him quickly, you could see the panic and indecision kick in, but it wasn’t until late in the game where I saw a lot of that. His passing, movement on/off the ball, and his decision making were pretty solid. He seemed to play with the team better and the team worked hard to keep him out of trouble. If his development continues, he could be a good asset for us.

Interesting. As I felt what was new about him was coolness under pressure. On the play where Finlay got his goal, he had the ball with about 3 Dallas players surrounding him. He let two Loons run by, peeling a couple of the Dallas players off, then he had time for the pass to Christian(?)–all without hardly moving. It was pretty nice. “Breakout” was probably too strong. But he definitely stood out to me.

He was definitely much more solid in this game than he was at Montreal. But he was asked to play a differnent role and played deeper than that game. Up until about the last 5-10 minutes he was one, I thought he played well. Those last 5-10 minutes he was a bit shaky under pressure and I think subbing in Warner was the right thing to do. Martin has a good change to develop and I think he’ll continue to improve.

Solid and encouraging, but I don’t know if I’d quite call it ‘breakout game.’ Let’s call it a breakout if we see him control a game or directly contribute to one or two game-changing moments (goals, assists, perfect tackles, etc.). That said, I was very glad to see him get a second start and take advantage of it.

I’ve been pretty rough on Ibarra this year because I expected a lot more from him game in and game out. I have to compliment his effort this game and give him huge props for his one touch goal. I think he needs to do this consistently to justify his salary and position on the team. That said, he was running crossing channels instead of just straight on which is good to see. His touch was better and he was dogged several times in defense.

Yeah this is the 2014-2015 version of Ibarra. I think I looked up and he was doing something interesting. Every time I spotted an opening in the game, he had just filled or left some space that caused it.
