The MLS offeason has begun this week with some clubs already making changes in preparation for next season. LA Galaxy have dismissed their GM Pete Vagenas and Colorado Rapids GM Pádraig Smith indicated interim head coach Steve Cooke will not return. Back in Minnesota, expect Adrian Heath to reprise his role as head coach of Minnesota United next year. The club has also reportedly fielded calls regarding the availability of winger Miguel Ibarra.
The MLS Postseason also began this evening with round one knockout matches in Chicago and Vancouver.
New York beat Chicago in convincing fashion on the road 4-0. The Red Bulls will face Toronto FC in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Vancouver scored five goals off of set pieces defeating the Earthquakes at home 5-0. Vancouver moves on to face Seattle Sounders next in the Western Conference Semifinals.
USMNT news
Dave Sarachan has been named head coach of the US men’s national team for next month’s match against Portugal. Sarachan and his fellow assistant coaches are still under contract through the end of 2017. This is expected to be a move in the short term, as the search for the next long-term head coach is not expected until February 2018 at the earliest when the USSF presidential election is held.
Briefly in player news, USMNT capped goalkeeper Bill Hamid is leaving MLS club DC United for Danish club FC Midtjylland. Hamid signed a contract with the 2014-2015 Danish Superliga champions through 2022.
