News in Brief: Sporting KC Front Office, USMNT, MLS Combine, and More

First MLS female assistant director of player personnel

Sporting KC have hired Meghan Cameron to be their assistant director of player personnel. Ms. Cameron has worked for eight years managing contracts and budgets while also having some coaching duties. Head coach Peter Vermes, a fellow Rutgers alum, specifically contacted her about the role.

    Christian Ramirez: USMNT player

Christian Ramirez is currently at “Camp Cupcake” with the U.S. men’s national team. After scoring 65 goals in 120 games for Minnesota United FC, the striker is getting the chance to join the national team he was told he’d receive an invitation to 12 years ago, when he was 14 years old.

MNUFC youth player with the USMNT

Fred Emmings, goalkeeper for the Minnesota United U-15 squad, was one of 36 players called up for the new USMNT U-15 camp. Emmings represents the first youth prospect from Minnesota to earn this honor and, as his call-up occurred one day earlier than Ramirez’, the first player from MNUFC overall to be called up.

    MLS Combine begins

With the MLS Combine having already begun, scouts are out in force to determine who should be drafted where. American Soccer Analysis has profiles to read through of most of the players involved. Matt Doyle, meanwhile, has five questions that need answering. After day one on Saturday, David Gass tells us whose stock rose and fell at the Combine. Brandon Bye, who plays for Minneapolis City, impressesed Gass, Which May mean he has a chance to play at his natural position (attacking midfielder) rather than in defense as he did on Saturday. With day two on Monday (January 15), there will be more matches available to stream on MLS’ website.
