News in Brief: MNUFC add Fernando and Dawkins, USSF Financials, and More

    MNUFC roster additions

Minnesota United continues to build out their roster late in the offseason. MNUFC announced midfielder Luiz Fernando will join the club on loan this season from Brazilian side Fluminense FC. The loan agreement includes an option for MNUFC to buy Fernando at the end of his loan.

Reports surfaced this week that the Loons have claimed midfielder and Jamaican international Simon Dawkins off waivers. Dawkins, a former Designated Player for the San Jose Earthquakes, is expected to take a pay cut to avoid DP status once joining Minnesota.

Both new additions leave MNUFC at a total of 11 international players on the current roster. Expect more moves in the coming days for the club to become roster compliant ahead of their MLS regular season debut.

    USSF financial statements released

The U.S. Soccer Federation released financial statements this week revealing former manager Jürgen Klinsmann as the highest paid employee during fiscal year 2017. Klinsmann was paid $3.3 million in salary despite being fired in November 2016. This reveals a stark contrast between Klinsmann and current women’s national team manager Jill Ellis, who earned $292,000 in 2017.

    Cool Kit Reveals

USL side Sacramento Republic FC launched their 2018 kit reveal campaign this week by showcasing their fans, starting with ninety-five year old season ticket holder Ferdinand Morantz.
