Next season, Loons fans will be helping out actual avian loons when they have season tickets. Minnesota United announced on Thursday that they would be partnering with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to tie their season ticket benefits to protecting wildlife in the state.
To kick off their first season in MLS, the Loons have founded the Itasca Society (named for the state park where the Mississippi starts) for the 11,842 season ticket holders. Those founding members will have some sort of permanent recognition at the new stadium, details for which have not been ironed out yet. The team is also working out other details for founding members such as exclusive merchandise and discounts.
The partnership with Minnesota’s DNR means that a portion of all season tickets will go to the Loon Monitoring Program. The monitoring program is a volunteer effort that helps track population changes of the state bird. Season ticket holders will also all get a one-day state parks pass.
Next week, those fans who have put down their deposits on season tickets will begin choosing their seats at TCF Bank Stadium.
