The Loons came out of their Expansion Draft on Tuesday very pleased that they had three starters on their hands. The assumption was that goalkeeper Jeff Attinella was one of the three, but it seems Minnesota United are in talks with the Portland Timbers over the former Real Salt Lake keeper.
The trade is by no means finalized and should it fall through, Minnesota seem to be happy with retaining Attinella’s services. It’s also unclear just who Portland may send in exchange.
Portland may want a keeper-for-keeper exchange, sending Jake Gleeson to the Loons. Gleeson may need a change of scenery after his post-season DUI arrest, but he was impressive in goal for the Timbers.
Another potential target could be Colombian winger Dairon Asprilla, who has spent the last six months on loan to Millonarios. Asprilla is on a full-year loan with a clause to purchase him at the end of the period, but at 24, he could be a good pickup for the Loons. He found himself out of favor in 2016, but has already scored two goals in his 800 minutes in Colombia.
Minnesota picked up Jeff Attinella from Real Salt Lake with their fourth pick in the Expansion Draft on Tuesday.
What are your thoughts? Who do you think Minnesota United could realistically be targeting?
