Minnesota United announces technical staff for Development Academy

Minnesota United FC will start its Development Academy with the U-13 and U-14 age groups this fall. On Wednesday, United announced the technical staff for and provided details on the coaching model. The names are familiar, with the staff holding previous roles with the club or holding an additional role with the first team. Rather than assigning a head coach and assistant coach to each Development Academy team, the coaches will all work together. The idea is that coaches will be able to prioritize the needs of individual players over those of a particular team.

Golden Goldys feature three soccer nominees

The University of Minnesota announced Golden Goldys nominees on Wednesday. This year’s slate features three nominees from the Gophers soccer team across the ten categories. Defender Rashida Beal made the list of Female Athlete of the Year nominees. Head coach Stefanie Golan lead the team to a double Big Ten championship in 2016. For that, she earned a nomination for Women’s Team Coach of the Year. The team itself is a nominee for the Women’s Team of the Year. The 11th-annual awards gala will be held on May 1.
