News in Brief: MSHSL Tournament, Minneapolis SC Tryouts, and More

by on 30 October 2017

The Vancouver Whitecaps and Seattle Sounders battled all game long with no score. It was a bit of a grind, featuring the lowest “expected goals” total of all 379 MLS games this year. Stefan Frei came up huge for Seattle, keeping the 0-0 scoreline with some late saves. The second leg will be played on Thursday.

The Minnesota State High School League tournament has begun, with both Girls’ Class A and Class AA and Boys’ Class A and Class AA brackets in progress. The teams involved include the thus-far unbeaten Orono Girls’ team. Orono saw the vast majority of its lineup change last season, as Nate Gotlieb tells us at the MN Soccer Hub. Meanwhile, Totino-Grace Boys’ focus is all on the team, writes Michael Hughes. The tournament continues Monday.

Minneapolis City SC is hosting open tryouts, calling for all comers to make its next season great.
