News in Brief: MLS Playoffs, NASL Lawsuit, and More

by on 6 November 2017

The MLS Cup Playoffs continued in wild fashion. Houston advanced 2-1 aggregate over Portland after the Timbers took a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute.

New York City FC won 2-0 over Columbus, but the Crew advanced 4-3 on aggregate. Toronto FC advanced on away goals after New York Red Bulls defeated the favorites 1-0.

The NASL’s lawsuit against the USSF took a hit over the weekend as the judge denied their request for a preliminary injunction. Both the NASL and USSF issued statements about the decision. For a full breakdown, Neil Morris of the Inverted Triangle Podcast looked at what the key points of the case were, and where things went wrong for the NASL.

Some rumblings from the inner sanctums of USSF surfaced, as eight members of the board of directors have called for a special meeting. Expected to be discussed is the firing of Jurgen Klinsmann as well as the process of hiring a new coach.
