News in Brief: USSF-NASL Deal Collapses, Porter Out in Portland, and More

by on 20 November 2017

Despite rumors circulating of an agreement between USSF and the NASL being close, Front Row Soccer reported on Saturday that there will be no deal. The leaked story is that there was a verbal agreement in place and the written deal did not reflect that agreement.

The 2017 MLS playoffs are set to continue this week, with both conferences having Leg 1 on Tuesday. Toronto and Columbus face off first at 7:00 PM, while Houston and Seattle will kickoff at 8:30 PM. Columbus hosts the first leg, creating what could be a raucous atmosphere given the possibility of a 2019 move to Austin for the Crew.

In an unexpected move, Caleb Porter has departed Portland. While not all details regarding the separation are clear, Matthew Doyle thinks the path forward is crystal clear for Portland. In the hole left by Porter’s departure, there are already names generating buzz to fill the void.

We at FiftyFive. One love lower-league soccer, so nothing warms our collective hearts more than a stellar display in the 8th tier of England. Daniel Dubidat scored maybe the goal of the year for Alvechurch against Sheffield FC on Saturday.

Nikki Albrecht, a native of Cedarburg WI and Golden Gopher, was called up to the U.S. U-20 National Team.
