Minnesota United is blessed with a plethora of fantastic fans. Due to there being so many fantastic Supporter’s Groups, the SG Roll Call series will continue past the home opener. If you have not heard from me, and want to have your group profiled, please direct message me on Twitter @kolson716. Today we will be covering Loon’s Nest.
FiftyFive. One: How did your group get started?
Brian Hanf: 2013 the founder family hung out near the Dark Clouds and near the end of the season his kids were singing many of the songs at home, some of which might not go over well with teachers or other parents at school. So during winter of 2014, the idea blossomed.
What is the story behind your name?
BH: Loons are birds, birds have babies in nests.
How would you describe your group?
BH: Family friendly. We are understanding that the kids like to run around and not watch the game – so we gather in a group to have support and eyes on the kids. We try to sing songs that will not get questioning looks from the PTA.
Where do you watch away games?
BH: The current group of four families that all hang out is down from 10 families. So these days we all hang out at a member’s home, but we are looking for a gathering place that is kid friendly to start growing the group again!
What are your pre/post game activities?
BH: We used to tailgate at NSC, we have yet to find a place in Minneapolis.
How does someone join?
BH: Start by connecting with us! We have a Facebook page and are @MNUFCLoonsNest on Twitter. During our first year we had scarves and loon flutes. There are some membership cards out there from that first year, but since we only have a few families we have been open to hanging out and growing that way.
Special thanks to Brian Hanf for responding to the questionnaire.
