The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) released their weekly rankings and the Stillwater’s boys team are again on the rise. Stillwater, which appeared on the list at fifth last week and seventh the week before, has improved to being fourth in the most recent rankings.
Ahead of the Ponies sit St. Ignatius of Cleveland Ohio, Conestoga of Berwyn, Pennsylvania, and Morton of Cicero, Illinois.
The Stillwater boys are 18-0-0 this season and into the postseason tournament. On Tuesday, October 18, Stillwater played in their Sections Final against North St. Paul High School, winning 2-1 with goals from Colman Farrington and their leading scorer, Miguel Caravais. The Ponies’ next match is Thursday, October 24 against Eastview High School at 7 p.m.
Stillwater is led by head coach Jake Smothers, who is licensed by the NSCAA at the regional level and by the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) at the D National level. He was a coach for the St. Croix Soccer Club for six years, and has coached a Spring Lake Park High School.
Smothers is assisted by Matt Weingartz, who was Hill-Murray’s varsity soccer coach for 11 years and is also licensed by USSF at the D National level.
