Venezuela 1 – Uruguay 0
Our first real upset of the tournament put Venezuela in the lead of group C, at least for a while. Rarely are two teams in a group eliminated after the second set of games, but with Venezuela’s shock defeat of Uruguay (and the Jamaica v Mexico match we’ll get to next) that is the case. This makes the Venezuela against Mexico match on Monday, June 13th the deciding match for the group.
With Suarez out, unbeknownst to him, Edi Cavani had to step up and deliver for Uruguay and instead he and the rest of La Celeste fell flat on their faces.

Rondon gave La Vinotinto the lead, but it was really the shot that caught the keeper off his line that set it up. Alejandro Guerra made him pay for coming out of the box with an amazing shot from near the centerline. Though Guerra made the initial save, Rondon scored with the rebound.

As mentioned, Luis Suarez didn’t realize he wasn’t on the bench. He came out in the second half ready to go in. How the Uruguayan star didn’t know he wasn’t in the gameday eighteen is mind boggling.

And then the aforementioned Edi Cavani had a golden opportunity to tie the match and give Uruguay a shot at the knockout round but he couldn’t get his shot on frame.
Mexico 2 – Jamaica 0
If you only watch one team outside of the USMNT in the Copa America, make it Mexico. The enthusiastic crowds, the passionate play and the highly entertaining games make them the most interesting game to follow in this tournament.
Juan Carlos Osorio improved to nine wins in his first nine games as coach of El Tri, a fantastic start by any measure for the Colombian.
There’s still the “p—” chant any time Mexico plays, which is ridiculously loud and rather shocking that it is still happening. Fortunately, it seems like the FIFA is finally coming down on the chant, with a fine levied against the federation this spring due to chant. We will see if anything actually comes of it.
There were a few knuckleheads with laser pointers in the crowd, which is always a classy move by supporters.

Chicharito would give Mexico the lead in the 18th minute with a header after Jamaica couldn’t hit on the counter.

The entire second half felt like a foosball match, with the ball just bouncing back and forth from goal to goal. Jamaica fought hard to get back into the match and had a reasonable penalty shout denied in the 64th minute.

Second half sub Oribe Peralta for goal scorer Chicharito doubled the lead.
