News in Brief: New York Cosmos Win the Last NASL Cup Before the Apocalypse

New York Cosmos win their third championship in four years

And while the NASL looks to be shrinking next season to nine teams, assuming the best, it still was a pretty solid game. Enjoy the shootout below and baffle at the use of goalkeeper Jon Busch as the third shooter by NASL coach of the year Tim Hankinson!

No goals in 120 minutes, but the @NYCosmos were once again crowned #NASL Champs. Relive the penalty-kick shootout: https://t.co/WJuX2HM70w

Justin Davis and Christian Ramirez Named to NASL Season Best XI

Leftback Justin Davis and striker Christian Ramirez have been named to the NASL Best XI. Ramirez was a frontrunner for the Golden Ball and winner of the Golden Boot award. Davis is a bit of a surprise as many observers had seen Davis’s play dip slightly this year. He makes his third straight appearance on the list. It’s perhaps a sign of just how difficult the leftback position can be in soccer.

On The Lighter Side, Former Loon Brian Kallman Posted a 2011 Picture of Himself Drinking from the Cup

For many long-time fans, they’ve already noticed the change in culture around the club, but the move to MLS will surely cement things like this solidly in the past.

Good luck to the teams competing in the @naslofficial championship today. Hopefully someone will enjoy it as much as I did #MNStars #champs pic.twitter.com/CPsqbWP2Gs

It might be time for him to go, based on his response to Megan Rapinoe’s protest of the national anthem.

Tim Howard is out. Time for the #MacMathelete to shine!

Our favorite goalie/mathematician Zach MacMath will be getting the call to fill in for Tim Howard for the rest of the post-season. As he helped lead Colorado to the best record in the spring, I’m sure he will do just fine. Plus, it’s a chance for Minnesota fans to get an up-close look on a potential expansion draft pick for the Loons. At least, in my dreams he’s our number one pick.

In any case, feel free to share how you think Zach MacMath will win the MLS Cup for the Rapids below:

Montreal Impact have Sold Over 50,000 Tickets to Conference Final Against Toronto FC

It should be a great atmosphere at Olympic Stadium in Montreal for their home leg against Toronto FC. Even better if they manage to pull off something as amazing as what Calum Mallace and Cameron Porter in one of Montreal last games at Olympic.

Finally, Will Griggs got in for Northern Ireland!

And the fans let him know how happy they were for him.

The Gulati response to Rapinoe bordered on parody. She has freedom of speech, as long as she does what she’s told. One wonders how he would have responded to Smith/Carlos ’68. Poorly would be my guess.

Yeah, that Gulati response is correct, in a legal sense, but completely misses the boat with where most USWNT supporters are on this issue.
