Ben Speas Signs With Indy Eleven

After a year playing for Minnesota United FC, attacking midfielder Ben Speas has signed with Indy Eleven, according to a source.

Earlier this week, Speas had announced that he would be leaving Minnesota and now it seems he will be ending up in Indianapolis.

The midfielder came to Minnesota from Columbus Crew SC, where he had been a homegrown player. In 2016, Speas scored four goals for the Loons in 23 appearances. His spring season was hampered by injury, however, and the club’s fortunes on the pitch seemed to follow.

Speas will now move to Indianapolis on a two-year contract to play for the Eleven, who surprised the league by capturing last season’s spring title.

Indy Eleven fans will be pleased to note that FiftyFive. One has already compiled a useful collection of Ben Speas puns.

Any chance we can get a “Where are they now?” article on all the loons from last year once everything has been announced?

        According to Wikipedia:
Greg Jordan = San Francisco Deltas
Damion Lowe = Tampa Bay Rowdies
        Danny Cruz = Unattached
        Jack Blake = Jacksonville Armada
        Stefano Pinho = Miami FC
Saniela Mendes = Florida Tropics (arena soccer)
        Chris Klute = Portland Timbers
        Bernardo Anor = Sporting KC

and we know Kristian Nicht said Good Night and Jamie Watson signed on to broadcasting.

The rest are still listed as with MUNFC. But that’s wikipedia…

hey, that’s great. Thanks. We just spoke about this as we were writing up Speas. I’m going to dig for a few of the others and see if we can find out more.
Anor is not with Sporting by the way. He is unattached, but signed by MLS.

Sad. I thought he’d be a contributor to a Minnesota MLS roster, at least for a year or two if he didn’t develop further.
